Toronto – December 2, 2008 –Softchoice (TSX: SO), a leading North American provider of technology solutions and services, is delighted to announce it has been named one of the Top Five Green Solution Providers in Canada by Computer Dealer News magazine. The honor recognizes companies that have met the green demand by creating more energy-efficient solutions, improving productivity and driving long-term cost-savings for businesses
“Organizations are facing a very challenging economic environment. With the focus on reducing costs and driving efficiencies, we believe that Green IT solutions are more relevant than ever,” said David MacDonald, Softchoice President and CEO. “Whether that means offering more energy-efficient hardware, environmentally-responsible disposal options, or technologies like Unified Communications, we are committed to helping customers find solutions that benefit their bottom line as well as lessen their environmental impact.”
Softchoice has developed a number of unique offerings that make it simple for organizations to ‘green’ their operations while reducing unnecessary expenses throughout the IT asset lifecycle. In 2008, the Company launched the world’s first searchable EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) product registry on Softchoice.com. IT purchasers can evaluate more than 1,500 skus based on environmental benchmarks that include refraining from the use of toxic materials in the manufacturing process, product longevity, energy conservation, and ease of recycling. Complementing this capability, Softchoice added ENERGY STAR certified products on its website a few months later. With more than 2,000 products available, customers can search and compare desktop computers, laptops and printers based on energy efficiency as well as price and performance. Measured by the sales of EPEAT products alone, Softchoice has helped customers save enough electricity to power 233 homes annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equal to taking 156 cars off the road.
In addition to these offerings, the Company has developed proprietary assessment solutions to give customers a comprehensive view of their current IT environment. By understanding where organizations sit on the green adoption curve, an action plan can be designed to find the right technologies that will save them time and money.
“We wanted to make the process easier for customers and have created the first EcoTech Assessment that combines an internal analysis of their IT environment with a free one-hour consultation,” said Melissa Alvares, Sustainability Programs Manager for Softchoice. “Through this process we help identify opportunities for organizations to green their operations and reduce business costs throughout the IT lifecycle – from purchasing and managing an asset to responsible disposal. This is just one more way we’re helping put IT at the forefront of sustainable change and creating a greener future for our customers and the planet.”
