Described by her peers as the most selfless individual in her approach to coaching and development, Shirley is passionate about growing others and her impact extends far beyond her immediate team.
People naturally gravitate towards her calm and kind demeanor and describe her as approachable, a very patient listener, and never judgmental, hence the “Mother Bear” nickname she’s earned and that has stuck with her for many years.
She tirelessly and selflessly supports her team of People & Growth business partners and is a constant coach to our VPs, directors and managers alike—helping them to become better people leaders. As one of our VPs put it: “We openly invite her to be at the table with us, because she constantly adds a unique perspective, sage advice, new ideas, and strong coaching.”
As an example of her passion to grow others, in 2017, Shirley spearheaded the creation of an internal employee resource tool that maps specific career advancement options and development opportunities for every employee within Softchoice.
Besides being a shining example of our values, she is seen as a terrific role model, engaging with various Softchoice Cares philanthropic activities and volunteering to oversee our Oakville office’s kids’ Christmas party for many years.
The Catalyst Award is Softchoice's highest honour for people leaders. The award is given to one person each year who demonstrates a commitment to coaching and developing their team, to achieving outstanding business results, and for consistently exemplifying Softchoice’s values. Recipients of this award are recognized in front of the entire organization at Softchoice’s annual Launch conference, and awarded development funds towards a leadership program of their choosing.
