If your organization is in one of many verticals that use design tools, there’s a good chance Adobe products are on that list. Like many vendors, Adobe has moved to pure subscription licensing with Creative Cloud.

Nonetheless, until now you’ve held out. You’ve maintained your perpetual licenses, looking to get the most from your investment. But, the cost of holding on is beginning to outweigh the benefits.

If you’re a perpetual license holdout, now is the time to make the switch. These are the Top 3 reasons to switch to a full Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.

Less Worry About Non-Compliance  

Adobe’s transition to the subscription model also meant a shift in its auditing and license compliance practice. One outcome of Creative Cloud’s enterprise user and entitlement controls is no more risk of being surprised by a licensing compliance audit.

Adobe’s legacy portal tracks license keys only, leaving all other software asset management tasks for your internal team. It’s on your organization to track the number of seats you own and who in your organization is using them.

The Creative Cloud subscription relaxes the need for internal compliance management. Your admins control user credentials and entitlements from a single portal. They’re able to assign and reassign seats from the cloud console. Creative Cloud tracks every seat.

This means no need to replace or re-harvest unused licenses when your workforce changes. It’s also much more difficult to over-deploy licenses by accident. The Adobe cloud automates the license monitoring and verification process so the risk of non-compliance is self-mitigated. This means your organization takes on lower risk of unintended misuse and a resulting audit.

There is still risk in holding onto your perpetual licenses.

Your License is Approaching its Best Before Date 

As we noted last year, moving to a Creative Cloud subscription yields the benefits of greater cost predictability. Smart licensing brings predictable cost and security benefits. And, your IT staff no longer need to manage every installation and upgrade.

You won’t get the same value from your perpetual license for much longer.

As of January 2016, support for Adobe Creative Suite 6 (CS6) no longer receives new feature releases, security patches or updates. Meanwhile, CS6 customers get basic assistance only until support stops altogether in May 2017.

This means legacy products will soon be stuck “as is” without updates for compatibility with new hardware or software. In turn, your creative teams are left behind by fast-evolving platforms.

Meanwhile, Creative Cloud subscribers get new features and updates as soon as they’re deployed, without having to wait through annual or 18-month release cycles. Creative Cloud also grants subscribers access to “archived” versions of select Adobe desktop apps to mitigate issues with clients or vendors still using legacy products.

Your Competition is On Creative Cloud  

It’s been more than 3 years, and Adobe’s subscription model is here to stay. And, there’s reason to believe your competitors are getting on board.

As of Q1 2016, Creative Cloud had reached 9 million subscribers in the 3 years since it replaced Creative Suite. By the same time this year, Creative Cloud has become Adobe’s largest division, accounting for over 50% of the company’s value. Forbes expects the Creative Cloud subscriber base to exceed 11.2 million by the end of the year. Adobe also reports that solid growth in 3-year enterprise subscription enrollments accounts for a sizable part of this growth.

Perpetual licenses leave difficult license management and renewal tasks to your IT staff. Unnecessary license purchases and renewals drive up costs. Your competitors are already collaborating on the latest version of Adobe’s creative desktop and mobile products.  Meanwhile, the switch to an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription requires low upfront investment.
