At Softchoice, we are often among the the first to know about big, important announcements from our vendors, and we want to be among the first to deliver this one to our VMware clients! VMware just let us know that they are rebranding VMware vCloud Hybrid Service to “VMware vCloud Air.”
Why the name change?
VMware states that, “The VMware cloud visions extends well beyond infrastructure-as-a-service – our intent is to deliver every component of the software-defined enterprise as a service on top of the VMware cloud infrastructure. This will continue to give customers the freedom and flexibility they need to move workloads between an on-premise Private Cloud to an off-premise Public Cloud – creating a true, Hybrid Cloud environment.”
It’s most important for our VMware clients to note that this does not coincide with any changes in price, capability, or service levels from VMware. Here is a summary of the 4 brand names affected by this change:
- VMware vCloud Hybrid Service is now called “VMware vCloud Air”
- VMware vCloud Hybrid Service Virtual Private Cloud is now called “VMware vCloud Air Virtual Private Cloud”
- VMware vCloud Hybrid Service Dedicated Cloud is now called “VMware vCloud Air Dedicated Cloud”
- VMware vCloud Hybrid Service Disaster Recovery is now called “VMware vCloud Air Disaster Recovery”
