The applications have been submitted. The interviews conducted and the QFDs (Quality Function Deployment) completed. Yes, it’s true! We actually use Six Sigma tools to ensure a fair and balanced approach to recruiting members of the Softchoice Cares board.
This year 13 employees drawn from Softchoice offices across North America have been appointed as members of the Softchoice Cares Board. Their role? Lead the company’s charitable giving strategy. More specifically, put the ‘fun’ in furthering the company’s focus on improving lives by providing those in need with access to technology.
With the new team in place, the first order of business is a two-day board orientation hosted by members of the outgoing board. There’s a lot to do and not much time to do it. During the two days the board must decide on roles and responsibilities, including the selection of a new Chairperson. From there the team sets the strategy and goals for its 18-month term, lays out its operating principles and gets a crash course in financial management. By the afternoon of the second day, the new board hosts its first official board meeting (phew!).
Heads may be spinning, but despite the deluge, important commitments have been made. Here’s a look at the principles that will guide the board’s work in the months ahead:
